Facebook starts becoming a little bit like Amazon

Facebook has launched a new “Buy Tickets” button on it’s event pages.  The user can use this button to buy ticket directly thru Facebook. For the time it is launched only in San Francisco Bay Area.  The entire backend operation of ticket buying takes place outside Facebook. But the confirmation email will be send to the Facebook user’s listed email. Facebook is not charging for this process from the event organizers.

This is a further step in Facebook’s commercial drive to generate more revenue. In future Facebook can directly start selling tickets. Facebook already allows product sellers to sell directly through Facebook via a “Buy” button.

The company’s product manager Aditya Koolwal in an interview earlier to Buzzfeed has stated that Facebook is considering to sell tickets directly. This step seems to be in that direction.

Overall Facebook is gearing up to be like Amazon in the social market.
