WhatsApp has been in news before regarding it’s acquisition but nothing concrete has ever emerged before. Facebook had also reportedly approached WhatsApp sometime back. Facebook has made  available free-calling  for  US and Canada for its iOS users  last February.

For Google, acquiring WhatsApp makes a lot of sense. Google is  likely  to  launch Babble – a cross-platform messaging service  that would unify all its messaging  service  into a single platform. However Google clearly is behind others in this area. It needs an established platform like WhatsApp to catch up and compete with others.

WhatsApp itself has a practical proven business model. It does not use advertising as a source of revenue but a subscription service which works wonderfully. It also generates revenue through partnerships with international telecom companies. It has also  probably crossed $100 million in revenue.

We will know soon whether there is much truth in this report or not.

The new iPhone 5S will have a better camera and a new processor.
It will also probably have a fingerprint scanner .

Low cost iPhone Nano

It is also speculated that iPhone Nano will be launched later this year.  It will have a 4inch touchscreen and a different casing. It will be available in many colors.

However Apple till date has not confirmed anything about the iPhone Nano.

Facebook Android OS will tightly integrate Facebook with Android.

In a sense, it could be stated Android  will now become  a truly Social OS with Facebook chracteristics.

HTC  and Facebook together again

HTC Myst will be the first phone to have this new customised Facebook OS.

HTC myst has already been  approved by FCC – Federal Communications Commission.

It is likely to be powered by 1.5 GHz dual core Qualcomm processor and 1 GB RAM. It will have 4.3 inch display with 720p resolution @ 330 ppi. It will also have 5 megapixel camera and 1.6 megapixel front camera. It will have 16 GB onboard storage but no microsd expansion slot. It will have 3G, WiFi, HSPA and LTE support. It will run Facebook customised Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2. Facebook Contacts, photos and messenger will be dafault apps. Facebook messenger will also provide SMS functionality even for non Facebook contacts.

HTC had earlier launched Facebook oriented phones namely HTC Salsa and HTC ChaCha but they only had Facebook button  to directly launch the Facebook app  and nothing more. In this sense HTC Myst will have Facebook focused OS.

Facebook shows customisation power of Android against Apple’s iOS simplicity.

Android extreme customisation has long been touted as  an advantage over  iOS  but this was more of a geeky feature and does not mean much to an average user of smartphone. But with Facebook customised Android this could take a whole new meaning and make customisation strong point of Android over Apple’s  simplicity.

Only time will tell whether Facebook and HTC have winner at their hands but it does bring some innovation for Android fans atleast those committed  to Facebook.

However for the first time we are getting the idea of the actual specifications of this phone.

Motorola X phone will have 4.7 or 4.8 inches full HD touchscreen with 1080p display.  It will have Sapphire glass instead of Corning Gorrilla Glass.  The unique thing about Sapphire glass is that it is 3 times more stronger than Gorrilla Glass.  So it’s scratch resistance will be well above current standards.

The X phone will be the first phone to be powered by Snapdragon S800 quad core processor. It will have 2GB RAM and a powerful 13 megapixel camera. It will also have a super giant 4000 mAh battery.  It will run on the latest Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2.  It is also very likely to be the first smartphone with Android Key Lime Pie 5.0.

Traditionally Nexus phones have been the first smartphones to have the latest Android version.  But since Motorola is now owned by Google itself it is possible that X phone might replace the Nexus in this regard.

In conclusion, all these are dream specifications of a smartphone enthusiast.  If this come true it can be stated without doubt that Motorola and Google have a winner at their hands.

It seems Apple needs to do a thorough security audit of its latest iOS 6.

It has just been reported that Pentagon   is considering ordering 600,000 iPhones and iPads. But this continuous non stop discovery of passcode bugs in iOS could be harm this possible deal.

This passcode bugs are in itself not that serious but it does make one think what other serious flaws are lurking inside iOS.

Apple needs to consider this issue seriously as otherwise it could harm its prospects in the enterprise market.

Prominent among these is pass code bug which allows any user to bypass the look screen and access the iPhone directly though in a limited way.

The update is available over the air and through iTunes. Open Settings > General > Software Update, or connect your device to your computer through USB connector.

This update also fixes Maps in Japan.

However it is not clear whether it fixes the vulnerability used by jailbreaking software like Evasi0n to jailbreak the iPhone.

The video does appear to show that Nokia Lumia 920 is better than Samsung Galaxy S3 in this regard.

Microsoft has never attacked Samsung with this direct intensity. Sometime back news had appeared on the net that Samsung is not going to focus much on its Windows Phone lineup. It will stick primarily with Android where it has earned massive profits and emerged as the highest selling Android smartphone manufacturer.

At least we can be pretty sure that all is not well between Microsoft and Samsung.

Microsoft Windows Phone though having got raving reviews has not been able to capture even a double digit market share of the global smartphone market.

In addition, Samsung’s probable desicion to dump Windows smartphone in future might have prompted Microsoft to launch such a direct attack against Samsung. Well one thing is clear new battle lines are being formed in the global smartphone market.

Nexus 4 was released just a few months back and already the net is buzzing with rumors of the next Nexus 5.

LG the maker of the current Nexus 4 will also make the next Nexus 5. The picture above is the likely prototype of the coming Nexus 5.

However another speculation is that the actual device will be very much similar to the current handsets, but the camera will have a novel triple camera sensor.

Nexus 5 will likely have a
5.2″ OLED Display with 1920×1080 resolution. It will be powered by a 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. It will have
3GB LPDDR3 Ram and internal storage of at least 16 GB.

It will also have a powerful 16MP OmniVision rear camera. The unique point about OmniVision camera is that it can record 4k videos @30FPS and 1080p Full HD videos @60FPS. It has Real Time HDR and HDR video recording, optical image stabilization with BSI 2.0.

It will also have a 2.1MP front camera capable of 1080p video recording @30FPS. It with have a massive 3300 mAh Lithium Polymer battery and front positioned stereo speakers like HTC One. It will have an integrated Qualcomm RF360 LTE @150 Mbps and HSPA + antenna and gesture like controls for navigation, zoom, etc.

This specifications are true good to be true but if they are, Google and LG have a sure shot winner at their hand.

According to another report the next Nexus will have a Snapdragon 600 and not the powerful Snapdragon 800 processor . It will have a 2GB RAM, 8/16GB of internal storage, and a huge 3140mAh battery. But the most interesting part of this report is that Nikon will make the novel “triple camera sensor. ”

Nikon made camera sensor is possible because sometime back Google had officially stated that they would like to make insanely powerful cameras for smartphone. In fact so much powerful that they exceed DSLR cameras.

A Nexus fan is likely to wish that the first report is true. But only in coming months we will know whether there is any merit in any of these reports.
